Q. What is the process for digitizing or making a digital representation of a property?
A. It’s a simple straightforward process. First we take scans of as many areas of the property as possible spacing them out evenly to ensure that each scan aligns to those that preceded it. Second, we upload the scan file to our hosting account for processing. Third we wait for the finished model to become available.
Q. How long does it take to complete the 3D Model after the scans of the property have been completed?
A. It usually takes a couple of hours but can take as much as 24 hours to receive the completed scan. The greater number of scans, the more time it will take to complete the model.
Q. What do I need to do before my scheduled capture appointment?
A. The property will need to be in the condition you want it captured to build the digital model. For businesses and real estate, this means the space should be staged and clean. There is no way to edit a scan after it is captured like a still photo so anything left out in the open will remain in the captured model. Towels, dirty dishes, and clutter needs be put away and furniture needs to be in its intended place prior to capturing the space. All persons and animals need to be out of view for each capture within the property, so it is preferred that all or as many of the occupants as possible leave during the capturing process.
Q. How long does it take to scan a property?
A. It takes approximately an hour to an hour and a half to capture each 1,000 sq/ft., but may take longer if higher scan location density within the space is needed or if there are complicating factors such as mirrors, etc.
Q. What is the largest sized property you can scan?
A. We are currently limited to around 200 captures per model which would allow us to capture a space a maximum of 10,000 sq/ft. but would be significantly smaller should the property need a higher scan location density to capture the details. Larger properties can also be broken up into more than one model.
Q. What happens if the scan limits are exceeded?
A. It becomes difficult and eventually impossible to take aditional scans as our software application will begin to crash. It also becomes increasingly likely that the file will not upload or be processed by the server. Lastly, larger scans are slow to load or contain flaws preventing your viewers from enjoying their experience.
Q. What do I, and my customers need to view the finished 3D model?
A. To view the 3D Showcase you and your customers must have internet access, a browser on that supports WebGL. The majority of updated versions of mobile and desktop browsers support webGL. To test to see if you have WebGL, click here. We will our clients with a link to share the 3D Showcase and embed code to post the showcase into your website. We also will provide you with a minimum of 3 months hosting on our account. There is no way to provide you with the entire file and 3D Showcase Software to be hosted on your own server or playback on your own computer.
Q. How can I and my clients measure distances within a property?
You must first have a browser that supports WebGL. To test to see if you have WebGL, click here. You must also have Unity installed. Unity is a cross platform game engine which allows most computers and most software to Within the main page of the hosted mode there is a button labeled “Workshop”. From here Unity should launch the Workshop viewer. Find the view or feature you wish to measure within the walk through view or mesh view, doll house view floorpan view. In the workshop viewer there is an annotate tool in the upper left side of the window that has a ruler icon. Click on the annotate tool and a drop down icon with “measure” will be provided. Select measure and a pink icon will appear in the model. Place the pink over the first surface within the model you wish to measure from there a blue line will appear to a second pink dot, drag the second pink dot to the surface within the model you wish to measure to.
